Seriously, What is Trade Show Drayage and Material Handling?

So, we had a little fun on our YouTube Channel last month about the opaqueness of estimates and invoices within the trade show industry. One goal of our video series is to help exhibitors better understand the trade show process. The most recent CEIR estimates (2013) indicate 20% of new exhibitors do not return to exhibit the following year – with other poll results showing an attrition rate as high as 35%!  Our belief is that if these exhibitors had a better understanding of all the costs associated with exhibiting before the show, perhaps they wouldn’t have been sticker-shocked into discontinuing their face-to-face marketing programs.

We’ve heard from event marketers that the most challenging trade show invoice to digest is their drayage/material handling bill. The infographic below is designed to shine some light on the dark, difficult, and unavoidable portion of every trade show budget called drayage. By sharing this with you, we hope to help you strengthen your relationship with them, as you work together to understand and manage this portion of their total trade show spend.
